Durarara!!/デュラララ!! Role Play

Ikebukuro: To some, it is just another big city in Japan, but there are others who have been priviledged to see what really goes on. Gang violence isn't what we're talking about. You'll soon see what I mean. Welcome to Ikebukuro...

    〈〈 ↢ ♈ ↣ 〉〉

A redheaded teen balanced on the balcony railing of her small Ikebukuro apartment. Her long braid blew about behind her in the wind as her emerald eyes scanned the horizon. Night was approaching, and with the night, came the darkness. The darkness within the girl was a feature she preferred to hide during the day, but her bloodthirsty instincts couldn't be contained as the moon took control. Even so, she loved the night. It was quiet, peaceful... As long as she kept herself under control. The short howl of a canine from the streets below interrupted her momentary peace. Her gleaming irises now changing to a darker hue, one that reflected the color of pine trees in the North, she turned her gaze downward to observe the creature.

The familiar sight brought a grin to her lips. It was her loyal canine companion, a wolf-dog she'd named Kaede after the color of his fur. It was maple red in color, dappled with patches of gray and a white underbelly and accents. He looked similar to a husky with his fluffy coat and slightly curled tail. The black bandanna around his right frontal paw gave her additional clarity to his identity. It was her gift to him; a constant reminder of the sibling-like bond they shared.

She leaped from the balcony and took her place beside him, following him through the city streets as the sunlight faded from view. This was how she spent most nights, hunting with her beloved friend. But it hadn't always been like this. For a time, she lived life as a normal human girl, but with her coming of age so close at hand, she was beginning to witness the full potential of her bloodline.

'My name is Kuraikara Nemon. I'm quickly approaching my eighteenth birthday, my coming of age. I was a normal human girl until I turned sixteen. That's when the changes happened. I started developing canine habits, like asserting my right as the "alpha" child amongst my classmates, growling when I got angry, chasing after small mammals in the park... That one was pretty hard to explain... But anyways, I've inherited some special abilities from my mother's bloodline. Abilities attributed to the most majestic of night creatures, the wolf. I can run faster, jump higher, and continue on in practically any activity hours longer than my friends. I can also communicate with canines telepathically and recently, I've been able to turn into a canine myself, but I'm still getting used to the fur... By the time my eighteenth birthday comes along, I'll have inherited all my abilities, and I'll no longer be a "normal" kid. But when I think about it... I never really was "normal."'

Nemon whistled to Kaede, catching his attention as they approached the edge of town. Police often patrolled the city borders, watching for any suspicious activities that might relate to the many gangs around the city. There'd been a lot more activity recently, so the lookouts were posted more frequently, especially around this time of night. The pine colored disks of her eyes narrowed as she scanned the area for a safe route into the wilderness beyond. For a few seconds, it seemed hopeless, until she spotted an unattended patch of ground between a couple of deteriorating buildings. She felt a rush of adrenaline in her blood, a desire to spring forth into the open as she locked eyes with the silent canine beside her.

'We'll make a dash through the scrape of land over there... It's unattended at the moment, but there are cops all around, so we'll have to be quick. Wait 'til I say the word...then we'll go for it.'

Kaede nodded in understanding, his practically neon yellow eyes brimming with the same conceiled excitement that blazed through that of his "sister". His ears flicked backwards as he lowered his stance, preparing to jolt forward. Nemon followed his lead, positioning herself in the same stance as an Olympic runner would have used, and it was ironically appropriate, seeing as how she could easily match the speed of one with her enhanced performance. She waited for the perfect moment. Once both guards turned their backs, she inhaled a tight breath and focused her eyes on her goal, the line of trees just beyond them.

    "We go... Now!!"

With a burst of power her legs sprung forward, launching her in an impressive sprint towards their goal. Kaede easily kept pace beside her, paws pounding beside feet. The stunned guards had no chance to react, catching a glimpse of pair only after they'd passed the border. With a smirk splayed across her features, Nemon jumped through the line of trees, content at last in the wide span of unsupervised forest. Free from restraints, rules, and restrictions, she leaned back against a tree and looked up to the starry sky, catching her breath. If every night was like this, maybe being such an outcast from the everyday wouldn't be so bad after all.
