Original Character Guidelines

Because we have been having problems with OC’s lately we have been forced to draft up some new rules concerning OC’s. Namely limitations to them.

The fact is everyone on the site has an oc that is albino or a runaway or a victim of abuse etc, etc, etc. The thing is the few and far between ‘normal guys’ are so rare they actually stand out. I’m talking the guys who grew up with loving parents, maybe a sibling or two that they occasionally fought with, got decent grades and holds a steady job who looks about average.

The sad truth is, ‘Average Joe’ does not exist anymore on this site and that is not good. Not everyone on the planet is a runaway or albino or an abused child. The thing is it’s become a problem so here is the deal.

Existing OC’s will be allowed to continue as they are IF AND ONLY IF they have already been accepted. Those PENDING acceptance must now conform to these new limits.

Your characters must NOT have more than TWO of the following traits:

Non-human
Albino
Abused
Bullied
Orphaned
Runaway
Foreign
Unusual hair/eye colour for their ethnicity
Unusual Abilities(See ghosts, feel emotions, control fire etc.)
Disfigurement(missing a part of their body they were born with or born without arms etc)
Mental Illness
Kidnapped at a young age
Be as strong as Shizuo or Simon without appropriate massive muscle gain.

Characters may not be:

Informant Brokers who fight with knives specifically.
Be albino, foreign or half foreign without being TEASED for it (Japan is a xenophobic country, they will be bullied for such things)
Be an orphan with no scars(emotional)
Watch family die with no scars (sociopaths exempt)
Be a victim of abuse with no negative effects to their personality.
Have a tragic past and never need therapy of some sort.
Be a runaway without a good reason
Be a Dullahan (It says very specifically that Celty is the only Dullahan to have ever been seen by anyone)
Be a huge body builder and yet run fast(large muscle slows you down)
Run faster than 44.72 km/h or 27.78 miles per hour (in fact their top speed should be well under that)
Be a Parkour master at under the age of 21
Claim to be a pacifist yet fight with concealed weapons and fight very well
Carry a gun unless they are military and police.
Have high intelligence AND incredible speed AND strength
Have more strengths than Weaknesses
Have a part-time job and be a student

Additionally, you must roleplay the medical issues that will come with each of these sections. If your character is bullied or abused? Fine, they must also show emotional hurt and struggle with what happened or have been to therapy for it. Character Albino? They better be wearing SPF 100 sunscreen and using an umberella anyways to shield them from the sun. Lost an eye? They have no depth perception.

The final subject to address is ‘What constitutes a weakness’. Weaknesses are needed to balance out the strengths. If your character is good looking, tall, strong, smart, fast and intelligent and a good fighter than they had better have some very serious afflictions. Liking puppies or sweet things just is not going to cut it.

A weakness is something that limit’s you, it creates a barrier you cannot pass unless you work extremely hard. You can use fears as the weakness but if their fear is something like clowns, well, let’s face it, that won’t be too hard to avoid.

If your character is physically weak, average looking and average intelligence and could probably beat someone smaller than him that has no fighting experience but would be on his back in ten seconds against a trained fighter than yes, taking home stray kittens is a weakness.

The following are examples of things we do not consider weaknesses:

Emotions
Friendship
Family
Cute things
Sweet things
Injured animals
Stray animals

The following are all considered strengths (even if you do not list them):

Good looks
Intelligence
Cunning
Slyness
Fighting Ability
Strength
Speed
Quick Wit
Accuracy with Knives/Arrow/Guns

We are not adding these limits in to be mean or unfair or to make it harder on you, the problem is we are starting to see characters(and have for a while) who have only three strengths LISTED but have ten or eleven all totalled with no real weaknesses to speak of. We are seeing characters that are Albino runaways who were abused and have no mental scarring and can fight epically. People who run faster then the world record holder, people stronger or as strong as Shizuo without too much muscle and characters who are so cliche it's almost sickening.

This does not keep roleplay fair, it creates Mary Sues and frankly we are tired of repetitively similar characters. And you may think your character is ‘unique’ and ‘interesting’. It probably is. The problem being so is everyone else and now it’s boring and dull and the same.

your name seems really similar ^3^ do you by any chance have a fanfiction account cause i think i read some of your stories idk someone with the same name seliphra anyways i completely understand these conditions i've too have seen them and they are waaayyy to OP i mean stronger than shizuo?! IMPOSSIBLE! and my twisted than izaya?! IMPOSSIBLE! and celty is the only dullahan it said so in the anime :3 i actually laughed when i read these rules XD specially at the part when it said '•Claim to be a pacifist yet fight with concealed weapons and fight very well' XD
