Ikebukuro: To some, it is just another big city in Japan, but there are others who have been priviledged to see what really goes on. Gang violence isn't what we're talking about. You'll soon see what I mean. Welcome to Ikebukuro...

PostSubject: athdlg's Character Needs Approval   athdlg's Character Needs Approval I_icon_minitimeMon Nov 12, 2012 6:16 am

Full Name: Kameko Umehara

Nickname(s): N/A

Birthdate: June 4th

Age: 23

Physical appearance: At a first glance, nothing particular can stand out with Kameko. She has long straight black hair that ends to her lower back and long bundles of hair can usually be seen resting over her shoulders to the same length. The shape of her face is oval; her bangs touching the ends of her eyebrows and her eyes themselves are dark brown in color. The body of hers is slim and small, with a cup size being a C. Skin tone is a fair color; her height being 167.5 cm (approximately 5’6’’) and a weight of 52.5 kg (approximately 115.8 lbs).

Being at home, Kameko is in slack clothing, that being in loose pants that she can freely move her legs in and a t-shirt that is a size too big for her. While going out, her signature outfits will normally include short sleeved to long sleeve solid colored shirts that are hidden under a light weighted, mildly tight, zipped up, sweater jacket that are in array of colors of her choosing, comfortable fitting jeans that are easy to move around in and tight black tennis-shoes. When working in the morgue, the clothing is supposed to be a basic cover-up of all her clothing from what they had given her, gloves, and something to tie her hair back. Once in a while she bends the rules and just wears what she does when going out, but only when she knows she can’t get in trouble for it…which isn’t too rare. Going to bed is simple, slacked pants or shorts with a long sleeved shirt that are two sizes too big for her.

Personality: Her facial features can make someone think she’s a calm and collected person; almost dull. Patient with others and can wait for hours to discover an end result. While that may be true, it’s not as if that’s what she’s about. When not conversing with others she is somewhat mysterious, concentrating on her work in her mind and pondering on what interesting things she has to look forward to in Ikebukuro if she were to ever get a chance. Nothing else necessarily matters when at the morgue or advising others of their crimes. If you really want her attention while she is at work, you can easily obtain it by calling her name.

Kameko is blunt with people for one moment and obscure the next. She’s does not want anyone to know about her, especially the truth about her past since she believes that she could still get in trouble for what she has done and thinks others perception of her would change dramatically (being mysterious doesn’t hurt either), and yet does not care if others know the little things about her. In a sense she’s a “scatter plot”, as an example anyway. You can’t mark her movements in a direct pattern always, but the next time you could possibly see a pattern to what she’s doing and why. She herself sometimes doesn’t know what she’ll do next until that very moment it happens. There are times when she has to plan out everything before it happens, such as her occupation as a criminal advisor or when she feels like she can only get what she wants by planning the ideal events out. It’s a lot of work although she finds it entertaining to see what happens after all that hard labor.

When around others she tends to act random, like the “scatter plot” example stated before. Able to speak abruptly to anything she wants without hesitation on any subject she wants, expecting some form of answer in return if you’re with her. She doesn’t need attention from people; she can entertain herself if needed by using the people around her, teasing someone could be a term for this. Her actions can be deemed the same way.

Kameko doesn’t let others take charge of her unless she thinks it would benefit her. She is kind when she wants to be and the rest of the time is when she tries to please herself. Knowingly to her, she hides a lot of emotions within, uncertain of how to deal with them, unsure of what she should let out and keep in so that others around her do not take suspicion of her or think of her as abnormal in some way. Never gaining a real sense of love, she doesn’t know how it feels, so even if she did like someone she wouldn’t know it herself or what to do. It’s hard to say what she’ll do, possibly be attracted enough to them to think that she could have a close friendship and want to be around them more, or she could not want to be near them at all because of how strange they make her feel. She’s confused to how she really feels about people once in a while and can sometimes take it out on the victims that she deal with in her criminal advisory work, or stay in solitary confinement in her apartment for a while in a depressed state until she believes that she has figured her emotions out for those people in question. With this confusion of emotions, once in a while she can change her previously set feelings for someone.

Having to do the dirty work herself, a rare occasion at best, she doesn’t show emotion at all. Kameko just remembers when she was young child and thinks of it as the same way up until the point the job is done. She doesn’t believe she is a sociopath herself, but she is considered one.

Background: Kameko was an only child, her mother being Airi Umehara and her father is Kenji Umehara, both being Japanese and born in Japan. They weren’t exactly the happiest family ever. By day the father would work as the mother stayed home, but at night it was different.

Kameko never liked her parents. They would argue and abuse each other at night when Kameko was asleep, sometimes in front of her when they didn’t seem to recognize that the world is still moving on without them. They never abused Kameko herself. When they do space out as they fight and almost hurt their child, they stopped instantly after realizing what they were about to do. The kid thought they were sick in the head, both for fighting in such a way and still be able to love a child so much. But what was she to do at the age of six? They were her parents; she was taught that they had some good traits no matter what. The neighbors didn’t seem to mind the noise; in fact it appeared they would go out of their way to ignore it as much as possible. People needed to mind their own business after all.

Kameko never gained a real sense of love because of this, but her parents did love her very much. It caused her to be separate from the people around and not be able to socialize well with everyone else properly. The kids at school try, but to no avail since Kameko herself didn’t want anything to do with them. She thought she was somewhat better than them to begin with because of her high intellect, or in her words superior.

People, mainly teachers, would ask her about her home life and Kameko would honestly say that her parents loved her but would never dare state that they would abuse one another. The only reason being that she believed being in an orphanage would be troublesome for her, not sure whether she would be adopted right away or not.

Kameko couldn’t take the fighting anymore, it had gotten to a point to where they would almost murder one another if she were not there to stop them, tired of hearing and seeing her parents fight, unsure how they could love each other in the first place if they at the same time hated one another. It confused her to a point that she thought the only way to stop it is with violence itself.

She was around ten years old now. In her mind, she didn’t need them. They didn’t need to be in this world if all they were going to do is abuse each other in front of their child. Needless to say, she devised a plan to get rid of them. It was not as simple as calling the police and having Kameko be taken away from them. No, there didn’t need to be a chance where they came back.

Kameko knew that her parents would soon go over the top again. This allowed Kameko not being able to dirty her hands, instead of stopping their ridiculous antics, as she liked to call them, she would let them continue.

She had it all planned out. Making sure that the neighbors weren’t around on that day, having them drift in the kitchen as she was “trying” to stop them from fighting. She pretended to hide from them, watching from around the corner. It was a sort of blur after her father picked up the knife in the kitchen…there was blood of course, and Kameko’s father had seen her watching. Then he went to another room and the sound of a shot gun went off.

That’s really, all she could recall. She had gone to the phone to call the police, but was overwhelmed as a sudden emptiness inside her grew. Kameko didn’t know the feeling, it was alien to her; she wasn’t sure what to think of it. It didn’t hurt her, it was almost a feeling of pleasure. There were no words for her to describe it as, but as soon as it came in it also went away. In the future Kameko assumed it was some sort of satisfaction that set in for her, the fact that she was able to accomplish something that normally others would find horrific but she saw it as an accomplishment.

The police had come, and after getting a report to what happened the girl went to an orphanage. She spent about three months in an orphanage before she was adopted into a “regular” family. A family by the last name Morikawa, the mother’s name was Rina, Hayato was the father, and a son they already had named Katsuo. They didn’t see any flaws in her, and when seeing the record of her past they had her see a therapist once or twice a week to see if they could help her with any difficulties she had. Kameko didn’t like the idea in the beginning, but with the help of therapy she was able to react “normally” with everyone else. Socializing with everyone “properly”, not like before. Her inability to socialize with other practically vanished and she appeared different to say the least. She wanted to be around people as much as possible and try and get to know them better, almost just observing them from around the corner to see what they do.

The family she was in was kind and nurturing. They made sure she was comfortable in her own home and had Kameko acquainted with their six year old son, now Kameko’s little brother. Almost inseparable afterwards, when Rina and Hayato went out she would take care of him. It was fun, they would play and she would make sure to keep him safe. In a way, Kameko learned “compassion” from this.

Right around Katsuo’s tenth birthday though, Kameko learned something interesting. Katsuo didn’t like how his room looked, he whined about changing it or getting rid of everything in there because all his friends teased him on how much stuffed animals there were in there. Kameko’s foster parents said they didn’t have enough money right then and there to change everything in his room but they would work on getting rid of the stuffed animals.

Kameko wanted to help Katsuo, it was only the right thing to do by helping him change his room. So as the three went out to a conference in Katsuo’s school, Kameko did a little remodeling in his room. By ripping up the wall paper, posters, and destroying and disposing of all the stuffed animals he had.

The family came home sooner than expected and found Kameko ripping up Katsuo’s last stuffed animal. All she did was smile and reply with, “I helped change your room like you wanted!”

Her foster parents weren’t happy, her brother wasn’t happy, and treated her differently ever since. They didn’t show her the same affection as they had done when first adopting her, her therapy visits were longer than before, and her brother seemed to become scared of her.

It was set in her mind that now she had no one to turn to and she could only depend on herself. She should only do things that will benefit herself and no one else. If she wanted something, she would claw her way to that goal by herself and use people along the way if she has to.

Kameko’s criminal advisory work started with her eavesdropping on someone who was planning on “getting rid of someone.” She stepped in and told them that their plan was sure to fail. It was an argument at first, but she convinced them enough to tell them the few details they knew and she came up with the plans on how to execute that death. They gave her money, it was a good deal.

She founded her ability to change her voice at a whim by accident. She was mimicking one of her customer’s voices one day because she thought it was silly and began to get really good at it. After some time practicing on several voices, she soon learned that with a little practice she could change her voice into anyone she wanted…some voices were more difficult than others.

Rumors had spread and she was labeled as the person to go to if you weren’t sure how to commit a crime. No one was sure of the gender, or who the person exactly was because when asked to meet at a certain place, she would change her voice and wear ridiculous outfits. Of course in later years she discovered a better way to meet up with people. Working at the morgue was on purpose though; she knew that sooner or later people could be suspicious of her and decided to get a job at a morgue. It wasn’t the perfect cover-up job but it was better than only being a criminal that could sooner or later be caught.

Working in Ikebukuro…It’s not the place she grew up, but once she heard rumors flying around that place, she decided to pack up her things and head straight over. This was actually before she figured that she was good at solving others crimes. So one could say that besides her past, that she believes no one still knows about, Ikebukuro started her business. Currently she resides in a rundown apartment building that people do still live in despite its condition. She expects to be moving soon, but why waste time and energy for a trivial thing as that? In Kameko’s mind she’s perfect as she is right now, but finding new things to do isn’t bad since she tries to find new ways of entertaining herself. There are plenty of secrets in Ikebukuro she would like to explore; she would just like them to come to her first.

Close relationships: Kenji Umehara (biological father), Airi Umehara (biological mother), Hayato Morikawa (adoptive father), Rina Morikawa (adoptive mother), Katsuo Morikawa (adoptive younger brother)
Kameko does not consider having close relations with any family members listed.

Current occupation (if applicable): A coroner and a criminal advisor. Being a criminal advisor, she helps others commit crimes—usually serious crimes—it being them doing the dirty work, or for her to do the dirty work.

Gang (if applicable): N/A

Strengths:
Can change her voice to whomever she desires with a little practice.
Has high intelligence.
Cannot feel physical pain easily; durable.

Weaknesses:
She is unable to see her true emotions for some people and doesn’t know how some emotions feel.
She’s not a very strong person (physically) to begin with.
She can gain a wrong perception of people which leads her to assumptions on them.
She doesn’t ever consider herself wrong unless there is hard evidence to prove so.
Give her some kind of award and she’ll do something for you; usually involving money, fruit, or giving her whatever silly request she asks for.
Can’t stand the taste of bitter or bland foods, leaves her with a long lasting taste in her mouth.

Fears/Insecurities:
Fears of someday going insane because of her emotions or crimes she has helped commit.
She doesn’t like knowing that she could live the rest of her life with bad deeds.
Fears of what physical pain might be if she were not durable.

Likes: Fruit, juice, examining bodies; dead or alive, copying voices, benefits for herself, and classical music

Dislikes: Bland or bitter foods, plans going wrong, customers not paying her correctly, smell of cigarettes, people being dishonesty with her (not necessarily the other way around), and smell of alcohol

Driving force: Interesting event, making up for what she has done or will do, different people she meets along the way, and knowing she can only depend on herself to get what she wants.

Hobbies: Walking around Ikebukuro, playing cards, and finding entertaining things to do

Describe your character in three words: Indiscriminate, blunt, and calm
If your character were stranded on an island and could only bring two things with them, what would they be?: A ball for playing and a machete for cutting.
If your character could change anything about themselves, what would they change?: To have one set personality for herself so that she knows how to feel about people; knowing how to feel about others.
Your character opens their fridge; what do they see?: Mostly filled with different kinds of fruit, drinks such as milk and different fruit juice, yogurt, and sandwich fixings.

Sample Roleplay:
Snow fell down from the dark, cloudy sky, gently nesting on Kameko’s head. She was sitting on a bench in your average park, watching what few people walked around were doing. Nothing to especially note; or care for, but it was entertaining enough to watch. A man was smoking and awful smelling cigarette that she could sense, even though she was a good enough distance from him, while a bottle in a brown bag was carried in his hand. A woman with what Kameko assumed to be her boyfriend holding hands while walking on the concrete path. A kid or two playing on a swing set behind her, but from the rowdy noise they were making she thought they could be teenagers.

Then a family was set in her sights. It was a little girl holding…assumingly her mother and fathers hands, skipping along the concrete path. They appeared happy, conversing to what she would like to do today besides walk in the park. Cute, but the only thing to acknowledge was the conversation that was happening when they stopped.

“Mommy, I want ice-cream!” The girl exclaimed, grinning towards her mother, who chuckled in response.

“Are you sure dear? I mean it’s—“Before she could finished her sentence the daughter responded.

“Pleeeeease?” She begged both her parents with pleading eyes, hopping up and down in a desperate attempt to win them over.

They both huffed internally and nodded to their daughter slower. “Okay, after we end our walk we can go get some ice-cream,” said the father, grinning from ear to ear as he saw his daughter smiling and jumping with glee. Off they went to end their walk and go get some ice-cream.

Ah, look at the time, it was time to go back home and get some work done for someone.

Getting up off her cold rump, Kameko stuffed her hand in her sweater and shivered from the cold breeze against her face. A smile stretched as she straight to slide on the ice that was partially on the concrete, “Silly girl! It’s too cold for ice-cream!” Kameko shouted in the park, not turning back to see if the couple and daughter had turned around to see who that was. She knew they would anyway.

Other: There is a reason to why she likes fruit. It’s more of a symbolism actually. The fruit is sweet, like her innocence as a child and for her to eat it is like how her innocence was destroyed by one single thought process of getting rid of her parents. Subconsciously she desires the innocence she once had which is why she always desires the fruit.

An interesting character, I like her so far but there are a few things that stand out a lot too..

  • If she dislikes dishonestly, why does she break the law/help others break the law and also help solve crimes? Part of being a coroner is to help solve crimes like hit-and-run's or muders.

  • She feels a LOT like Izaya and that honestly makes me a little uncomfortable. She's intelligent, enjoys people watching, does not understand certain emotions, does not comprehend the negative impact she might have on others, a bit childish, being 'scatter-plot' ish(sometimes predictable and others not), Trying to plan what she can out unless it's troublesome, being 'some sort of person that worked “underground” and helped other commit crimes they weren’t sure how to do and being the same age and nearly the same height doesn't help... (Being a criminal advisor is very similar to information dealing just less broad spectrum and more narrowed into things specifically illegal)

  • Is she a sociopath or not? You hint at it occassionally like that she can commit crimes or get others to commit crimes for her with little to no remorse(even when the crime is murder) but then you mention things like she cried when her parents died which displays emotions that a sociopath would not have, regardless.

  • Why doesn't she want people to find out about her past? Is she embarressed? Scared she'll be shuned? Or does she just know it was not a typical background? Or does she just want to come off as mysterious?

  • If she can withstand physical pain or doesn't feel it very much why does she dislike it?

  • If she regrets starting down this path why does she keep doing it instead of trying to change?

Aside from those kudo's to being able to show discord and permanant trauma from what happened (to a degree anyways) in her background, and she sounds like fun aside from what I mentioned~, I can't wait to see the edits. Please be sure to post a message in here when you have finished editing, thanks!

First of all I want to thank you for mentioning which area's you edited, no one has done that before and it made checking the edits a million times easier!

Your character is definitely better, she feels less like Izaya and the only thing I need to say is: It's sociopath not psychopath. Psychopath is part of mental illness and is what people define as 'crazy' sociopath is someone who feels emotions outside the norm and can commit acts others would find immoral or wrong with no concience.

Ahem, minor error so: Accepted~
