Name: Gavin Reid
Online name: His screen-name is Hao, but he usually just refers to himself using 'Oresama'. (Something he has the common sense to at least refrain from doing in person.)
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Race: Caucasian, Celtic
Occupation: Gavin is a student at Raira academy, so he has no full-time job, but he can sometimes be seen helping out at a local bakery on weekends.
Gang (optional): The Dollars; Gavin was introduced to the Dollars by a penpal of his before he even took on the exchange program, but it wasn't until after he came to Ikebukuro that he really learned what it was about.
Physical Appearance: Gavin is short for his age, though he insists it's just because he's due for a growth spurt, but relatively proportional. He's thin, but not to the point of looking mall-nourished, and he has the minimal amount of muscle for someone to assume that he's healthy, without fitting the description of 'muscular'. He would look extremely ordinary if it wasn't for the obviously celtic features which make him stand out thoroughly in Japan. For instance, he has very pale, very freckled skin and green eyes.
Eye color: Emerald green
Hair color/style: Gavin has ginger-red hair that grows like a weed and refuses to stay neat. He trims it ridiculously often, and still it reaches his shoulders by the end of the month. When he does manage to keep it short, it sticks out in every direction and doesn't seem to part properly. He's not very fond of the colour, either, as he classifies it as strange. He absolutely detests his hair, and the only thing that stops him from cutting it all off is the assurance that it would grow back to full length in two weeks time.
Height: 4'9"
Weight: 102 lb
Clothes: When not in his Raira uniform, Gavin can usually be seen in plain clothes. Simple button-up shirts, jeans, a coat if it's cold enough. He doesn't make an effort to be creative or original with his clothing, because he doesn't really care about being creative or original. His mother sends him hand-knit clothing every holiday, but he never wears them.
What brings them to Ikebukuro?: Gavin is on exchange from the UK. He's a boarder-line math genius, and his intelligence won him his high-school's worth of education in a school of his choice. He'd had a pen-pal in Ikebukuro for years by this point, and so, with a bit of persuasion, he ended up choosing Raira. He transferred into one of the school's first year classes, and got a part-time job at one of the bakeries in the district to pay for his lodging. He has also been inwardly hoping to get to meet the leader of the Dollars since his pen-pal first told him about him.
Personality: Gavin's intelligent, but he's also closed-minded and lacking in common sense. He's arrogant, and more than a bit self-absorbed. He's always liked to think he was pristinely normal; that any talents he had were above average, but still normal in essence, that he was above average but still normal in essence, and he prided himself on that-- that, in the end, he was just better at being normal than everyone else. He formed his pompous demeanour around that idea. However, Ikebukuro being as filled with abnormality as it is, he's found himself unsure of whether his view of normalcy is really normal, leading to a newfound worry of whether he's seen as odd. He expects everything to be simple enough, or perhaps himself to be intelligent enough, to fit the world into two categories; 'normal' or 'abnormal'. All in all, he sees the world in a very childish light, and despite his capable mind, he's relatively dense to anything beyond facts and numbers.
Strengths: Baking; Gavin's mother taught him to bake back in Ireland, and he was a natural at it. Oddly enough, though, his talent doesn't seem to extend to any other methods of making food. His teriyaki is horrendous. Maths; by far his best subject. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call him a born math genius.
Weaknesses: Japanese; language isn't one of Gavin's strong points to begin with, so his second language is, naturally, even worse. He can speak Japanese well enough to get by, but he often finds himself lacking the proper words to speak or forming statements on incorrect grammar, which usually leads to him getting immensely flustered and lapsing into English by mistake. Swimming; he's not terrible with other athletics, but he never really tried learning to swim. Socialising; Gavin's extremely talkative when speaking in English, but he has this 'holier-than-thou' air that tends to defer people.
Hobbies: Talking, mostly about himself. Reading, though mostly math text books.
Favourite food, music, books etc: Since coming to Japan, he's founded a love of spicy Mabu tofu, though he can't make it for the life of him, but he's not very fond of music in general and he still hasn't gotten used to reading books from right to left, though he would never admit it.
Dislikes: Swimming/large bodies of water, unfortunate for someone who's only ever lived in counties surrounded by water. Abnormalities, speaks for itself considering his personality. Sweets, ironically enough considering how much time he spends baking cakes, Gavin has an anti-sweet-tooth of sorts, himself.
Notes: Sorry that he's a bit boring, I wanted to make a fairly simply character to begin with so there would be less chance of messing up. Please let me know if there's anything I should add or revise.
